Runs

Tuesday and Thursday Evening Runs

Tuesday and Thursday evening training runs are led by Ewen Rennie and Elaine Omand. Details are sent out to club members via Spond.
Meet at parking for 6.30pm. These runs are normally slightly shorter than the Sunday run – about 1 to 1 ½ hours long.

Krunce summer series races are usually on the 1st Tuesday of each month, starting from Craibstone Golf Club, and many club members participate in this 'improvement' series, although they are open to all runners.

Sunday Morning Runs

Runs are listed on the calendar on the home page and are usually within an hour's drive from Aberdeen. We meet at the venue for 09:30. Runs will normally last about 2 hours and runners should carry their own maps, and safety kit. Details of location etc. can be found through the link on the calendar. We welcome potential new members at these runs which are normally run at a more moderate pace than the evening training runs, but be prepared to run for 2 hours and on variable terrain.

The group may split into smaller groups to accommodate different speeds or distance covered.

Safety

Everyone is free to roam the hills at will, but for organised club runs we need to ensure that everyone, particularly new members, are looked after. A major potential problem is of inexperienced members going off route and getting lost, but anyone, including the fastest and most experienced campaigners, might be unlucky enough to sustain an injury and be faced with a long hobble home.

All members and others on Cosmic Runs are expected to carry the following essential kit:

  • Compass
  • Whistle
  • Map
  • Mobile phone
  • Full body cover (appropriate for the conditions)
  • Emergency food
  • Headtorch

Please note that as this is almost the same as the compulsory kit required for races, it will do no harm to get used to carrying and using it. It is for our own safety that we carry the kit.

Anyone who is intending to divert from the normal route, or breaking off early to head home for instance, should make this known to others.

Information and a map with contact numbers will be circulated by email with the reminder for each run. In an emergency dial 999, or dial or text 112 (text may often be better when mobile reception is poor).

This does not absolve individuals from responsibility for their own safety when taking part in a club run.
