Cosmic Medal Monday - 15th June 2026
June 2026
Firstly, we celebrate the success of Lyndsay McEwan and Alan Cormack who applied to the Chris Smith Memorial Fund and were awarded a grant of £500 towards the purchase of a Defibrillator for the club.
On Thursday, was one of our Cosmic Races, the Balmedie Beach Race efficiently organised by Fiona MacDonald. 31 runners completed the quirky course up and down the dunes. First to finish was Lachlan Kirk (Stonehaven) and Lucy McLeod (Metro) was 1st Female. The first Cosmic was Rory MacPherson followed by Richard Lang, Kevin Heath, Dave Kirk and Alan Dick. Apparently the runners did the correct course despite some pesky teenager moving some of the markers!
Saturday parkruns were:
Hazlehead - Ewen Rennie and Kevin Heath
Aberdeen - Ally Sutherland
Stonehaven - Gary Gutteridge
Alness - Lesley & Sam Gomersall
On Saturday, Veronique Oldham did the Glen Rosa Horseshoe Hill Race, one of the Long Classics 20k and 1670m climb, made all the tougher by the gale force wind blowing. Veronique was 1st FV60 (must have had a recent birthday) and also 1st FV50
On Sunday, Shayne Lilith-Moon, Tina McLeod, Marie Thomason and James Whyte did Fraserburgh 10k. Shayne was 2nd FV50. Looking at the spread of cakes for afterwards, this is definitely a race that Cosmic should favour!
Ian Hamilton and Andy Chapman arranged a Cosmic Sunday Run using the Whatsapp group. Starting at Glen Dye, they did Clachnaben, Hill of Saughts and Mount Battock.
Meanwhile, Alan Cormack and Graeme Lornie have set off in the Summer Spine.
Comics are racking up big climbs for the Elevation Challenge. Marianne Lang led for most of the week with lots of big cycles in Shetland until Davie took top billing with a massive day in the hills; the Mullardoch Round, 12 Munros, 58.65k and 4878m! Steve and Colin are still close after some big cycles including the John Muir Way (in a day). The Gomersall's are getting lots of elevation searching out aircraft wrecks in the hills. Rob Jobling is surging up the ranks after 2 x 2000m days in the Pyrenees. Maria Davis did the Saxon Shore Relay, fancy dress as characters from Cluedo. Dave Kirk promised to earn more elevation doing the "Badger Divide" cycle route next week. The rest of us are just quietly accumulating our more modest efforts. The total is now 252,428m.
