Cosmic Medal Monday - 1st June 2026

June 2026

What excitement have we had this week? Saturday parkrunners were:

Hazlehead - Lesley Gomersall and Ewen Rennie

Ury Riverside - Ally Sutherland

Stonehaven - Gary Gutteridge

However, Lyndsay McEwan and Alan Cormack went further and ran Ashington Community Woodland parkrun in Northumberland. That wasn't enough running for those two, so they went up Pen-Y-Ghent, then on Sunday went to the Rothwell Cakeathon (now that really sounds like an event Cosmics would be keen on) where Lyndsay ran the half marathon and Alan ran the full marathon, all run on trails.

Veronique Oldham was 1st F50 in the Durisdeer Hill Race on Saturday, a medium counter for the SHR Championship this year. It is a tough one with 1300m of elevation and 16k.

Three Cosmics did the Sunday run to Lochnagar and White Mounth and they got surprisingly kind weather. They did the full round, 39.5k and 1290 climb. This is the last Sunday run in the programme. Membership Secretary, Rob Jobling, has sent out messages regarding a Whatsapp group for folk to exchange messages and arrange to meet for adhoc runs. With so many members away at races over the summer, a formal programme was not proving useful.

Lots of members have been enthusiastically taking part in the Elevation Challenge. In may, a total of 173,769 was climbed. During the week, Marianne took the lead but Colin soon wrestled it back. Davie moved into 2nd place with several big hill days leaving Marianne in 3rd and Steve in 4th. We must not forget the fundraising page either, it is such a good cause.
