Cosmics Medal Monday 9th February 2026

February 2026

So this week I’m going to try not to mention the R**** word! Did you know that if you are unduly affected by the weather you may be “meteorosensitive”? Despite this, Cosmics are still getting out there and on with it, we have some mega marathon achievements to celebrate this week!

On Saturday Lesley Marshall and Kat Lancaster did the Trailspire Ultra in Falkirk. The course comprises a 6.7km loop with 84m climb; Lesley and Kat completed a fantastic 29 miles in the 6 hours allowed. Apparently the weather conditions were perfect and with over 180 participants and friendly marshalls, there was a great atmosphere.

On Sunday it was the Fetteresso Forest Marathon and it is difficult to believe that it was anything other than very wet and muddy.

Rory MacPherson finished 25th in his target time of 4 hours, Mark Stockton 45th and Tina McLeod did the reduced course - Kudos to all three.

Andrea Drummond did the Proms 3K on Friday and the last of the North District XC series on Saturday - her team JSK Ladies was 3rd overall.

Tuesday training was a Paarlauf (German for “pair running” its a high-intensity, interval-based relay workout where two runners alternate running fast laps or segments while the other rests or jogs, typically lasting for a set time or distance). Thanks to Alan Cormack for organising the fun session.

On Thursday we had the head torch run - note we have given up calling them moonlit runs (even though just a couple of days past the full moon) for obvious reasons. Unfortunately numbers had dwindled to 4 on the night, but we had a nice run round Kirkhill Forest, taking in the Tappie of course, and things improved when it started to snow (you can guess what it was doing beforehand). This was followed by an excellent meal at the Everest Nepalese Restaurant in Blackburn. Thanks to Colin Larmour for organising, if you weren’t there you definitely missed out!

If you are suffering from your meteorsensitivity you may be consoling yourself by watching the Winter Olympics. As well as local heroes Andrew Musgrave (10th in Men’s 20k skiathlon) and Kirsty Muir (4th women’s Slopestyle skiing) we have Anna Pryce (40th in Women’s 20k skiathlon), daughter of ex-Cosmic and rather good hill runner Carl Pryce.
