Cosmics Medal Monday 2nd February 2026

February 2026

Aberdeenshire seems to be disappearing into a big lake (4 times the normal rainfall for January) and your committee is considering adding “snorkel” to the list of recommended kit (for hill running) 😆, but we do have things to celebrate.

The 7 who turned up for Tuesday training in the rain and wind and cold probably thought they were “hard men”, but it’s Ewen who volunteered to stand out in the storm to coach us that should really be applauded.

Some of the local park runs went ahead on Saturday morning, even Aboyne Castle Woods who had posted pics earlier of someone kayaking on the course. Had you been doing the parkrun at Sandringham in Norfolk, you would have had an audience with the King - or rather the King in the audience, as Charles was watching and cheering on the participants. Up here we had:

Aberdeen Beach - Ally Sutherland

Hazlehead - Graeme Lornie, Lyndsay McEwan and Ewen Rennie

Meanwhile, Alan Cormack was doing a 50 mile overnight training run,

On Sunday, some Cosmics took part in the rescheduled Lumphanan Detox 10:

Rob Jobling (14th), Veronique Oldham (33rd and 1st F50), Annaella Harris-Logie (46th), Lyndsay McEwan (262nd) and Alan Cormack (263rd).

Also on Sunday, the Forfar Multi-Terrain Half Marathon took place with Shayne Lilith-Moon (3rd F50).

There were just 3 takers for the Cosmic Sunday run, after an exchange of messages they changed the location to Blackhall Forest and Scolty (nearer and likely to be more sheltered) rather than Forest of Birse. This is the system proposed for Summer weekends when everyone is busy (exchanging messages to arrange runs rather than a set program) so it shows the system works. Only minor glitch is that Blackhall Forest was meant to be next week's run.

Coming up:

Tuesday Training 18.30 tomorrow - Paarlaufs at Duthie Park (meet by the Obelisk). Headtorch and trail shoes required. Alan Cormack will be running the session

Thursday 5th February - Head Torch run at Kirkhill followed by food at the Everest Nepalese Restaurant in Blackburn. Organised by Colin Larmour

Sunday 8th February - Blackhall Forest to Scolty

As usual full details and sign up for Cosmic runs are on Spond. Get in touch here if you want to join in and are not on Spond
